Assistant Commissioner, Metropolitan Police Service/Chair of ACPO Drugs Committee

Andy Hayman, 46 is currently Assistant Commissioner, Specialist Operations in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), encompassing responsibility for terrorist investigations, Special Branch, the protection of Royalty, VIPs, Diplomats, their residences and aviation security.

His national responsibilities include Chair of the ACPO Drugs Committee, a member of the Advisory Committee on the Misuse of Drugs, Chair of the ACPO Media Advisory Group, Chair of the ACPO Terrorism and Allied Matters Advisory Group and member of ACPO TAM (Terrorist and Allied Matters)

Andy Hayman began his police career in Essex Police in 1978, first joining the MPS as a Commander with responsibility for the drugs portfolio in 1998. In 1999 he was appointed Director of the Anti-Corruption and Complaints Investigation Department, (now the Directorate of Professional Standards).

He was promoted to Deputy Assistant Commissioner in the Metropolitan Police Service, with responsibility for Professional Standards and assuming extra responsibilities as deputy to the Deputy Commissioner. In 2002 Andy Hayman was appointed Chief Constable at Norfolk Constabulary and during his time there was elected the Chair of the Norfolk Criminal Justice Board. He took up his present role in February 2005. He is on the Board of Governors of Anglia Polytechnic University, is an external examiner for Cambridge University and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.

Andy Hayman was awarded the Queen's Police Medal (QPM) in the Queen's Birthday Honours June 2004
