| Peter Wheelhouse is Programme Director of the Drug Interventions Programme (DIP) at the Home Office. The programme, uses a high profile multi-agency approach to help reduce drug related crime. Its aim is to take advantage of drug misusing offenders contact with the Criminal Justice System to get them out of crime and into drug treatment and rehabilitation.
Peter is not a drugs specialist but has long experience in law enforcement and criminal justice roles and he has also worked closely with the private sector including the travel and IT industries. His early career was spent as an operational officer dealing with immigration issues before moving to policy and performance management work. Peter has worked widely with the police service and other criminal justice partners, including leading work on the creation of the Metropolitan Police Authority. Prior to his current post, he was Head of Police Information and Communications Technology in the Home Office, was a Board member of the Police Information Technology Organisation, and worked closely with the Criminal Justice IT Programme.
