Steve Dann
Detective Superintendent, Metropolitan Police Service

Steve Dann has 24 years service as a police officer and spent his first 11 years as a uniformed officer, later serving with the Special Patrol Group and Territorial Support Group. On promotion to Sergeant, Steve led a team of officers tackling street dealers in and around the ‘Frontline’ of All Saints Road, Islington. He also served at Hammersmith and Fulham and the Directorate of Professional Standards investigating police shooting and deaths in custody.

A two year secondment to Belfast in 2001 saw Steve working for the Police Ombudsman investigating complaints against police. He was involved in a number of high profile cases including the Omagh bombing. Steve returned to the Met’s Specialist Crime Directorate setting up the Middle Market Drugs Project, a joint Police and Customs unit aimed at tackling the Level 2 Middle Market Class A drugs traffickers. As a Detective Superintendent he is one of six officers in the MPS accredited to deal with crime in action (kidnaps). In March this year spent 10 days assisting the Swedish police with the kidnap of a businessman in Gothenburg.
