Charlie Lloyd

Charlie's background is in criminology: he studied, undertook and published research at the Institute of Criminology, Cambridge before moving onto the Home Office Research Unit in 1986. Here he undertook and published research on rape, prisons and probation before moving to the Home Office Drug Prevention Initiative (later the Drug Prevention Advisory Service). He was responsible for managing the research programme and also carried out his own research on drugs prevention and vulnerable groups.

On joining the Joseph Rowntree Foundation in 1999, Charlie managed the Young People's Programme and, from its inception in 2001, the Drug and Alcohol Research Programme – a programme of independent research on the social dimensions of drug and alcohol use. From 2006 he is managing a new programme of research on alcohol.
